About Me

Lisa Millhouse

You Deserve to Feel Great. I’m Here to Help.

I work with adults who have spent years keeping it all together for everyone else—at work, and often at the cost of their own well-being. Many of my clients are nurses, physicians, engineers, or neurodivergent professionals who are competent and respected in their fields but feel unseen, disconnected, or emotionally drained outside of them.

I use a client-centered, collaborative approach rooted in CBT  insight. I’m not here to diagnose you and fix you. I’m here to help you untangle patterns, understand where they come from, and start building something healthier in their place.

You don’t need to explain your intelligence, your independence, or why you’ve waited this long. I see it, and I get it.

I believe deeply in our inner resilience and resourcefulness. With the right support and a safe space to explore what’s getting in the way, we can reconnect with those strengths and create meaningful change. In therapy, I help clients recognize the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so they can better understand themselves and develop new ways to cope. I also incorporate mindfulness techniques to reduce stress, build emotional awareness, and increase self-compassion.

I especially enjoy working with neurodivergent clients, including those with ADHD, low-support autism (formerly known as Asperger’s), anxiety, and depression. Many people don’t realize they may have mild neurodivergent traits that contribute to feelings of overwhelm or self-criticism—sometimes showing up as anxiety or depression. I also work with individuals exploring patterns of codependency and help them understand the dynamics within their relationships.

Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy expressing my creativity through arts and crafts. I used to paint with acrylics, but lately I’ve been exploring watercolors. I love animals—especially dogs—and find peace in hiking and spending time in nature.

Why I Started Pelorus Counseling

Maybe you’re struggling with life transitions. Or maybe your thoughts and worries keep you up at night. Or you feel down, just going through the motions in life. Maybe you’re struggling with grief. I’m here to provide a “no judgment zone” where we work together to help you gain insight and decide on a path forward.

The name Pelorus comes from a navigation tool used by sailors to stay on course without a fixed map. That’s how I view therapy. You don’t need someone to tell you who to be. You just need space, support, and a steady guide while you figure out who you’ve always been beneath the noise.

This practice is for people who’ve done everything they were “supposed” to do—and are finally ready to do something for themselves.
